Wellbeing Coach Case Study

SOAR's Wellbeing Coaches support local people who require practical support to improve their health & wellbeing and change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals. Julie and Janine, two of the team, worked with this individual over a number of weeks to build up her self-confidence and motivation. She attended local walks and exercise classes, and was also supported to access SOAR's Welfare Coach team for housing support.

Here's what she had to say about the support we offered:

"I felt I had to write this email to let you know a few things that been in my head but I couldn’t bring myself to say. I want to tell you how grateful I am for all the activities you put on and how much I am enjoying myself.

Before I met you all I didn’t do any activities and only left my flat to go shopping or to hospital appointments, I had no enthusiasm or confidence for anything and just hid away, I suppose you could say my ‘get up and go had got up and gone’.

Now with your encouragement and persuasion I am living again, I look forward to the activities and I feel there are not enough days in the week to do them all. I have found a new zest for life and want to cram it all in!

Before I started the activities I used to say I missed the old me, as I used to be so confident, but now I don’t miss the old me….. I am a new me and I think with all your help I can be a better me than I was before.

Thank-you all so much for believing in me and giving me the strength and opportunities to do all these things. I hope this all makes sense, as I tend to ramble.

Thank-you from the bottom of my heart."
