SOAR Volunteers were joined by the Lord Mayor in being recognised and celebrated for their remarkable achievements and dedication.
Volunteers are at the heart of SOAR and we owe a lot of our success to the wonderful team of dedicated volunteers! Thanks to generous funding from the Sheffield Housing Company, we were able to celebrate volunteers in true style at Sheffield’s Central Library on Thursday 16th February 2023.
Volunteers are active people within their communities who go above and beyond supporting projects and offering their time. Last year, SOAR recorded five thousand two hundred & fifty-eight volunteering hours!! That’s three hundred and fifteen thousand four hundred & eighty minutes or according to Google, the same amount of time it would take you to walk none stop from Sheffield to Bulgaria.
The Central Library was filled with 50+ guests from all walks of life, who had been invited to the celebration in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the community. While we know that they choose to volunteer selflessly & without expectation of being recognised or rewarded, the day was all about doing just that. Volunteers matter & make a difference. For many years now, our team of volunteers have been making a significant impact in our community and beyond. Their selfless efforts, unwavering commitment, and tireless work have inspired us all and have made a real difference in the lives of those we serve.
The highlight of the celebration was a series of speeches, including our Lord Mayor Sioned-Mair Richards, who thanked the volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the community. Our Lord Mayor shared stories of how her own volunteering journey and how volunteers make a difference in people's lives and expressed her gratitude for their selfless service.
One volunteer said “it’s so nice to get together with other volunteers and hear all about their journey".
A big thank you to everyone who attended and to all our volunteers who continue to go above and beyond!
The celebration was hosted at Sheffield Central Library, the perfect spot to celebrate community volunteers with food from Zooby’s, from the Winter Garden.
