SOAR Social Groups

Updated: Jul 5

Our Community Development Team work within our local communities to set up social cafes and groups to enhance the health and wellbeing of local people. We run three groups in Chapeltown, Shiregreen and Parson Cross; read on to find out more about the groups and how you can make a referral.

What's the best thing about coming here?

"It makes a difference to my mental state, I feel better mixing with people."

Chapeltown Social Cafe

Mondays 12-3pm, fortnightly.

Newton Hall, Cowley Lane, S35 1SX.

For people with mild mental health issues wanting to meet others, build confidence and be supported to move on. Refreshments included.

GP referrals preferred.

What do you like about the social cafe?

"The social cafe is more like an extended family that is so nice to come to and chat."

Shiregreen Social Group

Wednesdays 10am-1pm, weekly. Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre, Westnall Road, S5 0AA.

The group is a great place to meet others, have a chat and get involved with activities. Refreshments included (£2.50).

Describe the cafe in three words...

"Sociable, welcoming, supportive."

Parson Cross Social Cafe

The Learning Zone, 320 Wordsworth Avenue, S5 8NL.

This cafe is great for people wanting to meet others, have a chat and get involved with activities such as crafts or massage therapy. Refreshments included (£2.50).

How do you think the cafe has helped you cope with life?

"I was very down until my doctor introduced me to the cafe where I made new friends."
