This Energy Savers Week we thought we'd share a bit about our Debbie, and what she's been up to here at SOAR! Debbie has recently completed a 3-day course leading to a level 2 City and Guilds Award in Fuel Debt Advice in the Community. This means she's been sharing this valuable learning across our community in partnership with the Multiply programme and helping local people to:
Understand the causes of fuel debt
How to read electricity and gas meters checking these are correct against their bills
Know what their consumer and fuel supplier’s rights and responsibilities are
Understand their tariff and payment options and how they can compare them
Know how to check their fuel statements
Looking for common billing errors
Learn the definitions of vulnerability used by the energy industry
Know how to contact their supplier and complaints procedures
Find out about switching and who can help
Know what help is available to low-income and vulnerable families – including Priority Services Register, Warm Home Discount Scheme, trust and hardship funds
Understand the cost of energy when using different appliances to help them save money
Debbie recently delivered some sessions at The Learning Zone and Stubbin TARA, and the feedback was great:
"I now understand what 'watts' mean on my appliances and how much they cost to run – I'll hopefully save some money now."
"I never understood my bill, but it's clearer now and I know what to look and check for."
"I’ve wanted to look for cheaper energy but didn’t know how to compare companies or who could help, but I do now."
"I feel better now I know there is help out there if I need it and who I can contact."
"The meter numbers always confused me, I understand them better now!"
"I didn’t know I could get cheaper water rates... I do now!"
