Nature Activities & Green Prescribing

Green prescribing is all about supporting people to engage in nature-based interventions to improve their mental and physical health, increasing wellbeing, happiness & lowering levels of stress. Our Wellbeing Coach, Helen, works in partnership with Network North Primary Care Network and other local organisations, providing tailored coaching to help people develop healthier lifestyles and enjoy the outdoors. Read on for some nature-based activities you could try:

Evidence shows that being outside in nature can improve your mood, and reduce stress levels and blood pressure. What a glorious day for getting out and seeing how many of these spring flowers you can spot!

Here's a great way to recycle your old milk bottles and save money on plant pots! Remember to make a hole in the bottom of your container for drainage. You can even plant things vertically, like tumbling tomatoes and trailing bedding plants. This is the end of a pallet, but you can use a whole one if you're feeling ambitious!

Here's a simple bird feeder to help the birds through the hungry gap before insects come out in warmer weather and plants start to grow. Be creative: make patterns with sunflower hearts in an apple, a stick to perch on, and then hang up in a bush or tree with string. Sit back and watch the birds enjoying their treat! It's great to help nature, and good for our own health and wellbeing too.

If you'd like to come on the future nature walks that we organise, want to arrange a walk for your own group, or feel like you could benefit from some health & wellbeing support, get in touch with Helen Taylor: helen.taylor@soarcommunity.org.uk or 07960 085 403.
