Our Wellbeing Coaches hold a Wellbeing Wednesday session every week at The Learning Zone, which gives people the chance to try out and learn different exercises, arts & crafts, health chats, and meet others. This blog gives an idea of how Wellbeing Wednesday has helped individuals move on to trying new activities in the community:
Our Wellbeing Coaches use coaching skills to encourage individuals to seek out and create additional social opportunities outside of Wellbeing Wednesday, empowering people to take back control of their own health & wellbeing.
The team spoke to the group about moving onto other community activities so that space was available for new people to try Wellbeing Wednesday and receive support. Dates were set up to meet together at various places such as SWFC gym, Parson Cross Forum, and Foxhill Forum to introduce them to the people running the groups, so they felt confident to attend on their own or with the friendship groups they had made at Wellbeing Wednesday.
By trying new activities, participants have managed to address low-level anxiety, reduce feelings of loneliness, and enhance their overall sense of fulfilment! They have increased energy levels and noticed improvements in their physical health.
Here's some groups that they are now confident to attend:
Tai Chi at Parson Cross Forum
Indoor bowling at Parson Cross Forum
Young at Heart at Parson Cross Forum
SWFC's walking football at Parson Cross Forum
Walks with Step Out Sheffield
SOAR's social cafes
Longley 4 Greens' café space
SOAR's chronic pain cafes
Friendships have been formed that continue to flourish outside of Wellbeing Wednesday!
Participants left the program with a solid foundation of knowledge, practical tools, and strategies to maintain their wellbeing independently, as well as a network of peer support to encourage them.
Wellbeing Wednesday has been a really positive experience for so many people, so if you're interested in trying out new things and building your confidence to try even more, get in touch!
