Foundry Chronic Pain Support Groups

We're working in partnership with Foundry Primary Care Network, delivering sessions for people living with chronic pain, to offer support and advice for effectively managing their condition. Our November was a month filled with support from a Physiotherapist, Personal Trainers, a Singing for Lung Health & Wellbeing Practitioner, Compassionate Sheffield, and SOAR’s Wellbeing Coaches:

Tuesdays:

November saw new people attend the Tuesday group (1pm – 2pm every week at Firvale Community Hub) as well as people returning for another session.

We have had the pleasure of being joined by the fantastic physio Lauren from Nuffield, as well as 2 interpreters of Slovak to help facilitate the 1-to-1 physio sessions and whole group discussions.

Finally, this month we began our process of evaluating our groups to see the impact that they are having – you can see the positive outcomes for the local community members in the mind map here.

Wednesdays:

The Wednesday Men’s Group (1.30pm – 2.30pm every week at Burngreave Library) has seen the men growing in confidence as they have gone from seated resistance band exercises to some standing movements as well as partnered exercises.

We are lucky to be joined by the gentle giant Stefan (Nuffield Personal Trainer), as well as an Arabic interpreter to help support more of our local community.

As you can see from this group’s feedback the men are enjoying socialising, learning new skills and exercises, and feeling their mood improve.

Thursdays:

The Thursday Women’s Group (11am – 12:30pm every week at Burngreave Vestry Hall) has had multiple visitors this November.

We have had Caroline from Compassionate Sheffield lead a heart-warming session where we all spoke about our loved ones that we have lost as well as our family’s traditions and beliefs.

Helen who is a Singing for Lung Health & Wellbeing Practitioner led a session helping the women learn new breathing techniques to improve lung health as well as help calm down one’s anxiety.

We had Louise the Personal Trainer lead chair exercises, really encouraging the women to move and strengthen their bodies with the resistance bands.

And as you can see from the group’s feedback – the women have enjoyed moving more, feeling happier, and learnt new ways to live with their pain!

What's Next:

December will see the groups continue for the first 3 weeks of the month (with a break for the following 2 weeks over the Christmas break).

We will have our Personal Trainers, Physiotherapist, and Singing for Lung Health & Wellbeing Practitioner return to the groups!

Anyone living with chronic pain that would like to join a group to learn how to better manage in their day-to-day life as well as socialise and exercises are welcome to join any of the groups. No need to contact us, just turn up - we currently have the space at all of the groups for more people!

All the best,

An enthusiastic SOAR Wellbeing Coach
