SOAR’s Employment Coaches offer information & guidance to local people looking to get into employment, training or volunteering. They'll help you build the tools for self-confidence, self-esteem, goal setting and more. Read on to hear Gameia's story:
Gameia first came to us in April 2024 after leaving her zero-hour contract cleaning job due to changes in her working hours that conflicted with her home life. Now economically inactive, with four school-aged children and supported by her husband, she sought help to return to work. It was her first time in three years without employment, and her confidence had started to decline.
We provided an hour of interview preparation, covering basic skills, breathing techniques, and the STAR model for answering questions. Gameia successfully got the job and has now been working since mid-September. Her confidence grew further, and she went on to do a Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate to support her application for a “Multi-Tasked Assistant” role with the NHS. She has since accepted a second job at Northern General Hospital and is awaiting a start date!
We helped her update her CV and set up online job searches, which boosted her confidence and enabled her to independently apply for jobs. In June 2024, she had her first interview in a while but was unsuccessful. After multiple applications over the summer with no luck, she secured another interview with the University of Sheffield.
“I would not have been able to get one job let alone two without all the help, support, guidance and understanding of my Employment Coach. I am very grateful and so happy!”
