SOAR provides an established employment service. Working with a range of people, from young job seekers just out of education to those with long-term health conditions, we continue to lead, support and empower individuals to value their transferable skills and recognise their capabilities.
Sharon became unemployed in June 2019 having worked at the Northern General Hospital as a Catering Assistant for just short of 30 years! She was referred to SOAR via her GP and was contacted by Marc from the SOAR Employment Team to see how he could support her. After an initial chat, it became apparent that Sharon wanted to move into Retail but felt her confidence had taken a knock since losing her job at NHS due to health issues.
Marc and Sharon started working together and met once a week to go through job searches and job applications within the retail sector. Alongside the weekly 1-2-1 sessions, Sharon also booked onto the ‘Motivate Your Mind’ course through Big Ambitions. This was to help improve her mental health and overall confidence. Sharon found this useful and along with attending 1-2-1 appointments with Marc began to see her confidence improve. Sharon began to find her CV was giving her some positive feedback and has since had interviews with Primark, Lakeland & B&M.
Sharon then applied for a Sales Assistant role at Card Factory in Meadowhall and was invited to interview on the 23rd October. The interview went well and was contacted the day after and was told she had been successful at the interview and was offered the job.
“When I first came to SOAR my confidence was really low, having left a job I really enjoyed working in for almost 30 years. Although I had support from Marc as my advisor, all the staff at SOAR helped me to become more confident and are all really helpful and supportive. Moving back into work will help to develop the skills I already had and also allow me to meet new people in a job which I enjoy doing. It feels great to be back working!”
