Community Wellbeing Support

Our Wellbeing Coaches work in and around North Sheffield, and have great links with other local organisations and groups. They offer support and advice around making healthier choices on diet, movement and so much more. Read on to hear how two individuals have progressed from SOAR's Wellbeing Wednesday to other community activities...

Anna and Betty were both given Wellbeing Wednesday information by their GP surgeries in SAPA5, and both regularly attended until summer 2024, when the group took a break. They then tried a few other community activities but didn't find anything that really suited them. They both missed the company and regularity that Wellbeing Wednesday had offered them.

Anna had also been referred to SOAR for chronic pain support, which our Wellbeing Coaches Janine & Lynn offered through 1-1 support and a surgery's Pain Clinic. They gave practical advice and support, and issued a Pain Pack with heat/cold pack and massage balls.

Janine invited both Anna & Betty to Longley 4G Community Centre to try the exercise classes there, and they now both regularly attend the yoga sessions. This gives them some gentle movement, mobility improvement and relaxation: 'Yoga has really helped us find some relaxation. We can get up off the floor now again!'

In a recent catch-up, both Anna & Betty recognised that by coming to Longley 4G and eating at the cafe that was there, they were getting more nutrition into their day-to-day diets, and they have tried new foods.

Janine, Anna & Betty have also discussed them both becoming volunteer buddies at Wellbeing Wednesday, to help new attendees settle in and then when they are ready to move on, being a familiar face at L4G exercise sessions too!

Janine says 'I'm pleased to have been able to help and support these ladies at SOAR and now out in the community at L4G.'
