#VintageStreet campaign aims to reduce alcohol problems in the over-50s

Drink Wise, Age Well has launched a new campaign which aims to tackle the stigma around alcohol and encourage people aged over 50 who are drinking problematically to seek help.

The main element of the campaign centres on a short online film called ‘Vintage Street’. Shot in the style of a nature documentary, ‘Vintage Street’, takes a look at four characters as they grapple with key life transitions that can trigger harmful drinking.

In the UK it is estimated that approximately one in three older adults with an alcohol problem develop it later in life, often because of changes we will all go through, so retirement, bereavement and “empty-nest” all feature in the film.

The film is supported by web pages providing background on “the landscape” of problematic drinking among the over 50s in the UK, as well as help and advice, whether face-to-face in our five localities or via web chat for those further afield.
