SOAR Works Tenant Profile: My Life Project
We have some great organisations doing some fabulous things at SOAR Works, and this month we’re focusing on My Life Project.
My Life Project is a small company set up in 2011 with the ambition of supporting the personal and social pathway of children, young people and adults using a variety of urban arts and media.
Based at SOAR Works, they have a small team with various specialisms, who have experience of working with a range of children and young people.
They are open to working with anyone, but their specialist area is supporting the emotional, behavioural and developmental needs of children and young people who may often face barriers in a mainstream setting.
My Life Project offers placements for groups and individuals to work on many issues from low esteem to anger management and raising attainment.
My Life Project has a great track record: they currently work with Special Educational Needs (SEN) including primary inclusion and mainstream schools across the city. They also work closely Youth Offending Service (YOS) and offer support for employment education and training (EET) for post-16 development.
The name ‘My Life Project’ was chosen specifically to acknowledge that each one of us are individuals with different backgrounds, life experiences and abilities.
They offer a range of different sized sessions, from small one-off taster workshops to themed projects and long term creative learning programmes. Although based at SOAR Works, a proportion of their work spreads across the city and beyond, as far as Leeds and Nottingham working with many different agencies.
“As a company we genuinely enjoy what we do,” said Carl Kennedy from MLP. “We love to take on new ideas and challenges. We support young volunteers and welcome and feedback for improvement.”
