SOAR seeking Cancer Champions

SOAR is looking for people who want to become Cancer Champions in our community!

Our Cancer Champions would help people in our community to have a better awareness and understanding of how to identify the symptoms of breast, lung, bowel, prostate and cervical cancer.

They would promote the important of being cancer safe by encouraging people to attend screening through their GPs as soon as they discover any unusual lumps or changes to their bodies.

Promoting early intervention will help save lives, and our Cancer Champions can advise on the cancers and where to go for support.

Training and support will be given to our volunteer Cancer Champions. For more details contact Angela Woodward on 0114 213 4075.

Two of our recently appointed Cancer Champions, Margaret Gardiner and Sue Beresford, have recently completed their cancer awareness training.

Their new-found knowledge will be used at afternoon tea and coffee and chat meetings to be held next month (dates and venues to be confirmed).

* The Be Cancer Safe Project is looking for men affected by prostate cancer and their families to share their views of hospital visits and the support required, from diagnosis through treatment.

The survey is quick to complete, and anyone who has received a service for prostate cancer in South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw or North Derbyshire can take the survey, or their partner or carer.

The survey is available until January 6.

The information will be used to help further develop prostate cancer services.

The survey is available here –
