SAVTE Is Recruiting New Trustees

 

Could you make a difference to communities facing deprivation in Sheffield?

SAVTE are looking for new trustees who want to be involved in the transformation of SAVTE to help secure sustainability so that they can continue to provide quality English language support in Sheffield communities.

SAVTE is a medium sized Sheffield based charity which has a long history of enabling volunteers to provide English language support to those people most excluded from mainstream provision. The vision is to make a positive impact on community development, by changing lives through connecting people with language learning. The mission is to help speakers of other languages develop the necessary skills and confidence to learn functional English which will enable them to become more active and empowered citizens in their communities. They particularly aim to recruit volunteers from within learners’ communities to help foster new relationships, neighbourhood resilience and community cohesion.

This is an exciting time for SAVTE, they are mid-way through a 5 year Lottery grant which has enabled them to take stock, reassess and modernize provision in order to meet the continued growth in demand for English language support in the city. Their provision is unique, their reputation locally and nationally is growing, and they have ambitious plans for further development, transformation and diversification to ensure sustainability beyond 2022.

Could you be a SAVTE trustee?
SAVTE want to strengthen and diversify their board. They are keen to appoint people who are enthusiastic to support SAVTE and can bring specific skills, experience and diverse perspectives.

They are currently looking for people with the following experience:
• Marketing and communication strategy
• Finance; policy or fundraising, contract tenders
• Health; social care or public health

They welcome applicants from all backgrounds with diverse lived experiences and a commitment to SAVTEs vision.

Commitment:
This rewarding and stimulating role will require a time commitment of around 7 meetings a year and is unremunerated, although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. In return, as a trustee, we hope that you will have the opportunity to share your skills, experience and bring a fresh perspective to an organisation that is developing cutting-edge approaches that combine community development and ESOL to making real and positive changes to people’s lives.
