Holiday Fun Success!

With the school holidays over and autumn just around the corner, we reflect on a great summer of fun, activities, healthy meals and celebrate the power of community.

Joining forces to deliver ‘Holiday Fun’, Aspiring Communities Together, Firvale Community Hub, Pitsmoor Adventure Playground, Foxhill Forum, Longley 4 Greens, Stubbin TARA, Sanctuary Housing and SOAR have had a great summer spending time with families across North Sheffield. Activities have included sports days, science, crafts, tabletop sales and street parties! Alongside the fun activities, healthy meals have been dished up including fresh fruit with yoghurt and honey, pasta salad, homemade pizza, lots of vegetables, sandwiches and more.

The sessions aimed to run family fun activities alongside healthy meals throughout the school holidays. Schools are at the hearts of our communities and alongside learning about our culture and values they are also a place to access a variety of services that help to maintain wellbeing, social skills and the provision of a daily school meal. Through ‘Holiday Fun’ activities and working with Fare Share and Foodworks, the provision of a healthy meal was provided and positively contributed to the whole ‘Holiday Fun’ experience.

One Shiregreen Nana of 2 girls who attended said “The girls loved the Circus skills & have tried new activities they’ve never tried before. It was lovely to see the girls playing with other children from the area. It was also really nice to sit down with other families to have a community meal & it was appreciated when we could take food home afterwards.”

One Mum said “I’ve got three boys and would have really struggled these holidays. The activities and the meals were an absolute godsend. My boys really enjoyed them and all the organisers and helpers were so kind and welcoming.”

Across all the sessions, there was a real sense of community where knowledge could be shared, connections made and everyone chipped in to make the sessions the best they could be. One Mum from the Stubbin neighbourhood said “The sessions have been wicked. It’s been great getting the kids off the street and involved within the community.”

This summer has seen nearly 300 hours’ worth of Holiday Fun Sessions delivered by the above charities. The sessions have welcomed a variety of families from across North Sheffield and have been a great success! A massive thank you to everyone who delivered Holiday Fun, including staff, volunteers and parents who helped chip in!
