Holiday Appetite in North Sheffield

October half term saw witches, ghouls, princesses and even Harry Potters join in North Sheffield’s ‘Holiday Appetite’ fun!

Joining forces to deliver ‘Holiday Appetite’, Aspiring Communities Together, Dickory Dock Nursery, Firvale Community Hub, Pitsmoor Adventure Playground, Flower Estates Family Action, Foxhill Forum, Longley 4 Greens, Stubbin TARA and SOAR have had a great October half term spending time with families across North Sheffield.

The sessions are funded by Sheffield City Council and are aimed at delivering family fun activities alongside healthy meals throughout the school holiday. Schools are at the hearts of our communities and alongside learning about culture and values they are also a place to access a variety of services that help

to maintain wellbeing, social skills and the provision of a daily school meal. Through ‘Holiday Appetite’ activities and working with Fare Share and Foodworks, the provision of a healthy meal was provided and positively contributed to the whole ‘Holiday Appetite’ experience.

Across all the sessions, there was a real sense of community where knowledge could be shared and connections made. Everyone chipped in to make the sessions the best they could be. Activities included arts and crafts, discos, soap making, fancy dress, treasure hunt and play! Alongside the fun activities, healthy meals were provided including fresh fruit with yoghurt and honey, pasta salad, homemade pizza, lots of vegetables, sandwiches and more.

Jane Bird from The Shiregreen Neighbourhood centre had this to say about the sessions “A big thank you to not only all the volunteers and everyone who makes these sessions happen, but the community that come to the sessions and make them such a success.”

In addition to the 300 hours’ worth of Holiday Fun sessions delivered in the summer, the October half term saw nearly 50 hours’ worth of sessions delivered. The sessions have welcomed a variety of families from across North Sheffield and have been a great success! A massive thank you to everyone who delivered Holiday Appetite, including staff, volunteers and parents who helped chip in!
