Healthy Holidays 2020
Thanks to significant funding from the Department for Education, a Healthy Holiday programme is being delivered across Sheffield to support thousands of families during the summer holidays. In North East Sheffield alone, there are close to 20 organisations preparing healthy activities and meals in a COVID secure environment.
Organisations across North East Sheffield have been running holiday activities for a couple of years now. It’s an opportunity for young people and parents/carers to spend time with others in a safe and friendly space. Activities in the past have included sports, arts, drama, baking and much more. One Nana of 2 girls that attended last year’s activities said “The girls loved the Circus skills & have tried new activities they’ve never tried before. It was lovely to see them playing with other children from the area. It was also really nice to sit down with other families to have a community meal & it was appreciated when we could take food home afterwards.”
There has been ALOT of planning that’s gone into the programme so far. Hanna Ramsden is one of the Healthy Holidays Local Area Coordinators; we caught up with her for a quick 2 minutes in between her spending time on the phone with providers and ordering equipment for Healthy Hampers. “I’ve been working within a great team & engaging with amazingly supportive hubs & community providers to help deliver food & fun for this year’s Healthy Holiday summer programme. Once the programme launches I’m most excited about seeing the families of North East Sheffield having lots of fun.”
Joining forces to deliver Healthy Holidays in North East Sheffield are Aspiring Communities Together, Chaucer School, Dickory Dock Nursery, Endeavour, Ellesmere Youth Project, Firth Park Academy, FEFA, Firvale Community Hub, Forge Youth, Foxhill Forum, Greentop Circus, Holgate Meadows School, Longley 4 Greens Community Centre, Pitsmoor Adventure Playground, Reach Up/Big Brother, Upper Wincobank Chapel, Whiteways Primary School. A big thank you to everyone!
