Cooking for Health course a big success!
SOAR Health Trainers recently delivered a Cooking for Health course, and it was so successful they are planning another one for early 2019!
Julie Moore and Bev Cross teamed up to deliver the seven-week course at Longley 4G every Tuesday morning, which combined really useful cooking skills with information about budgeting and healthy ingredients and cooking.
Participants could not only take home the food they prepared, but they received a food parcel to cook meals over Christmas as well as a £10 Tesco Voucher and a certificate.
“The course showed people how to cook homemade recipes,” explained Julie. “We made healthy pizzas, shepherd’s pie, mini Christmas dinner, carrot and coriander soup, onion bhajis and chicken curry.
“They learnt budgeting skills, how to make a meal, plan for the week, use fresh produce as well as frozen, they shared lunch after they cooked and took some home for the family to try.
“Participants gained cooking skills which they could share and pass on to family and friends, they also made friends.”
One participant said: “Thank you for taking the time to teach me how to prepare and make a meal. I have enjoyed every minute of my time that I have been there.”
The next course is due to start in March. Watch this space for details!
