“Just thought I would give you a little progress report about my journey with SOAR. I am originally from Oldham, having come to Sheffield to enter Phoenix House Rehabilitation, leaving behind family friends and my employment. I lost my identity. I was put in touch with SOAR who linked me to one of their Volunteer Befrienders, who encouraged me to come along to some local groups. I attended a GP Practice Health Champion training session which I thoroughly enjoyed. Since then we have opened a Craft Group which has grown.
SOARs Employment Team then supported me to access a NHS Employability Scheme, and since enrolled at college obtaining two O levels, the one in Maths is a real achievement , I might add, since I got unclassified at school.Following a 5 week placement at Northern General, I have just heard I have got the job at the Hallamshire Hospital in the maternity ward starting shortly. My life has just blossomed, my social life has expanded so much and life is looking good. I feel excited about life again and would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to every one of you who has played a part in my recovery, which continues on a daily basis.”
