SOAR was originally set up in 1999 to run the SRB5 programme in the Southey Owlerton area and engage people back in to learning. This was achieved by developing services and a voice for young people, health improvement work, enterprise development, community engagement and capacity building, community safety and running a community chest.
This left a significant physical legacy in the area; 4 Community Activity Hubs (Foxhill, Longley, Shirecliffe and Parson Cross), SOAR Works Enterprise Centre, The Learning Zone in the new Chaucer District Centre, 5 regenerated parks, and 5 areas where the Street scene has been improved.
SOAR was incorporated in March 2004 as a company limited by guarantee and became a charity in November 2005. Since 2006, when the SRB programme ended, SOAR has moved on to deliver a variety of services that carry on the regeneration process on the North of Sheffield.
