Festival Fun in Parson Cross!

Sometimes the community just needs to get together, relax, and have fun. That’s exactly what happened at the Parson Cross Summer Festival!

The week-long festival was thrown in partnership with SOAR, Sheffield City Council, Chaucer School, Parson Cross Initiative, and White Rose YMCA.

The goal of the festival? Get people out, having fun, and mingling with their neighbours!

High Green residents celebrate Yorkshire Day

Every year, to celebrate Yorkshire Day on August 1, High Green local residents and groups hold a community celebration day at the Miners Welfare in High Green.

A selection of stalls – ranging from local history groups to Tai Chi and Sword Dancing groups – took part as well as representation from local pharmacies, PCSOs and the local Advice Centre.

Become one of our Very Valuable Volunteers!

Without our lovely band of volunteers SOAR wouldn’t be able to do the valuable work we carry out in the community every day, and we’re always on the lookout for new people who want to come and be a part of our team.

That’s why we have regular volunteer recruitment events, and August was no exception with an event outside the Learning Zone where we spoke with around 50 people who were interested in finding out more.

I have developed in many ways through volunteering at SOAR

Shafaz has been volunteering for SOAR for almost 4 years. Shafaz started off as a client via the Health Trainer programme during which she attended a 12 week healthy eating course delivered by Thaira Fiaz and myself Somshun Nessa. The course increased her knowledge in Health & Nutrition and it helped increase her confidence in turn making her more sociable. After making many positive changes in her lifestyle, she went on to attending the Introduction to Community Development and Health Course (ICDH) which she completed successfully and obtained certificate.
