Getting My Steps in for Move More Month!

In celebration of #MoveMoreMonth2019, we caught up with SOARs Move More Ambassador, Julie Moore, on her lovely walk to work and why walking is so good for you!

I thought I would share my lovely walk to work this morning; these photos are on the edge of Parson Cross, showing the Trans Pennine trail route. I’m wanting to encourage everyone to get out in the fresh air and make the most of the sunshine, take note of surroundings, look up at the blue sky, smell the Lavender plant and take in the vibrant colours on my short 20-minute walk to work.

Concord Park Takeover

Concord Park was the place to be this Summer half term! Joining forces with Playful Anywhere and Sanctuary Housing, there was a Playbox full of exciting goodies, including magic, graffiti art, hula hoops, table tennis, spaces domes and more. We caught up with Claire Davis (Community Facilitator) to find out more.

This summer half term was fantastic fun, with over 150 people coming along to the Playbox. We welcomed a variety of ages, with people finding out via Facebook, mums’ network and poster/flyers. As a free 5-day event, one Grandma said “it’s been great fun and has saved me about £80 on entertaining the grand kids.

Roma/Slovak Weight Loss Group Success!

March 2019 saw the launch of a 4-week weight loss group for Roma/Slovak ladies. Working in collaboration with Page Hall Medical Centre, SOARs SCID Team and Firvale Community, we caught up with Beverley Cross (SOAR Health Trainer) to find out more.

The objective was simple; a 4-week weight loss group for Roma/ Slovak ladies. Referrals came from Page hall medical center to SOAR and triaged to the Health Trainer. As the Health Trainer, I had the opportunity to work with Yasmin from SOARs SCID Team and Silvia (Volunteer Interpreter) who volunteers for Rhona Sanders at Firvale Community Hub.

With the right help, anything is possible!

SOAR is proud of the hard work our staff and volunteers put into helping other people, whether it’s finding employment, getting the benefits you’re entitled to, getting fit or getting out and about!

We’ve had some fantastic results recently, and the people involved have agreed to let us share their stories to show others just what is possible with the right help.
