Indoor Market at Longley 4G

There will be something for everyone at the Longley 4G Indoor Market, being staged next Saturday, March 17.

The event, from 10am-3pm at the Longley 4G Community Centre on Southey Avenue, will feature a range of stalls selling new, nearly new and second-hand items.

The event is a fundraiser for rising star Jasmine. The Sheffield 14-year-old has been picked to play hockey for England. Her first match will be in Portugal – but she needs funding and support to help get here their and realise her dreams.

FREE Health and Wellbeing Sessions in Shiregreen

Are you over 50 and want to improve your health and wellbeing? Then why not come along to our free six-week course which provides practical activities to promote healthier living.

Sessions start on April 19 and will look at both physical and mental health and include topics such as sleep and relaxation, food and mood, meal planning and budgeting as well as low impact exercise sessions and mindfulness session.

Get Crafty with your Toddlers!

All kids love to get creative and crafty, so they’re bound to love our Crafty Toddlers group!

The weekly sessions are at the Learning Zone in Parson Cross, every Wednesday until March 7 from 1.30-2.45pm.

These fun activities will help develop your little one’s social and communication skills, and it will also give parents a chance to meet new people too.

Sheffield is a City of Sanctuary for asylum seekers and refugees

A new resource for asylum seekers and refugees has just opened in the city centre. The Sanctuary is a place where people can come for help and advice, have a hot drink, use a computer, or just hang out with friends.

It is managed by City of Sanctuary Sheffield, whose volunteers are on hand to listen to people’s problems and signpost them to appropriate help and advice. In time there will also be ESOL classes, art and craft sessions, mental and general health support, as well as advice for people who have just gained refugee status, and much more.

#VintageStreet campaign aims to reduce alcohol problems in the over-50s

Drink Wise, Age Well has launched a new campaign which aims to tackle the stigma around alcohol and encourage people aged over 50 who are drinking problematically to seek help.

The main element of the campaign centres on a short online film called ‘Vintage Street’. Shot in the style of a nature documentary, ‘Vintage Street’, takes a look at four characters as they grapple with key life transitions that can trigger harmful drinking.

Health and Social Care for the elderly – does it work?

Elderly Sheffield people and their carers are being invited to a focus group to share their opinions about how well health and social care is working for them.

The event, staged by Healthwatch Sheffield and the Care Quality Commission, will take place on Tuesday, February 13, from 1.30-3pm at the Moorfoot Building, S1 4PL.

The Care Quality Commission wants to hear a range of views on how well services work together in Sheffield to:

New Bookstart Club for Burngreave Bookworms!

Reading is a great way to explore the world and broaden your horizons, and the new Bookstart Club at Burngreave Library is a great place to start!

Come along to our weekly sessions each Friday to introduce your child to a love of books. Share stories, fun activities and lots more!

The first session is on Friday, February 9, and it runs each week apart from half term from 10.30-11.30am until the last planned session on March 23.

New Baby Group for Burngreave

A new baby group has started at Burngreave Library!

Running each week on Wednesday mornings, the Baby Time group is a place where you can relax, play and meet other parents, carers and children with toys, music, sharing stories and more.

The first session was February 7, with others planned for the 14th, 21st and 28th from 10.15-11.15am.

Our Step Up social groups are great fun – join us!

Our Step Up Groups are a great way to meet new people and transform your life for the better, and two new groups have just started.

The Chapeltown Step Up Ground started on January 30th, and runs every Tuesday from 10am-12.30pm for 11 weeks. There’s still time to come along and join in, learn, have fun and socialise.

And we have a new group starting on February 28th in Firth Park – again an 11-week group, this time on Wednesdays from 1-3pm.
