Snakes alive! Patients find out about SOAR’s services

SOAR wants as many people as possible know about the services we provide, from healthy living advice, employment advice to language, maths lessons and more!

We regularly head out into the community to spread the word about the great work our volunteers and staff do, and last month it was the turn of The Health Care Surgery on Palgrave Road.

It was a Macmillan fundraising morning too, so there were lots of people there who were interested in what SOAR has to offer as well as raising money for a great cause.

New link-up helps create A Better Life

SOAR is teaming up with Sheffield Citizens Advice to work on an exciting new project called A Better Life, which is part of the Age Better in Sheffield scheme.

The project is to be centred around financial inclusion for people over 50 and living in the Burngreave area.

The team will include a Project Co-ordinator, a Volunteer Development Worker and an Advice Worker from the Citizens Advice Bureau, Khatab Mohamad.

“SOAR took a group of 43 vulnerable adults to Blackpool for the day. The group consisted of differing ages who had a range of health issues which included mild to severe mental health; physical disability which seriously affected individuals’ mobility and one individual who suffered from Downs Syndrome.

It can be tough being over 50, but moves are afoot to make sure that the older members of our society are heard and understood, and are offered the help and opportunities that they deserve.

A survey is being conducted funded by Age Better Sheffield into factors contributing to the both the integration and isolation of the over fifties age group in the Burngreave and Firth Park areas of Sheffield.
