Could you help SOAR climb higher?

WE have a fantastic board of Community Trustees at SOAR… and you could be one of them!

We’re recruiting Community Trustees to help SOAR deliver and develop its health, employment and training services that we deliver across North Sheffield.

Your local knowledge and contacts will be invaluable in this respect as well as other knowledge and expertise.

SOAR Works Tenant Profile: My Life Project

We have some great organisations doing some fabulous things at SOAR Works, and this month we’re focusing on My Life Project.

My Life Project is a small company set up in 2011 with the ambition of supporting the personal and social pathway of children, young people and adults using a variety of urban arts and media.

Based at SOAR Works, they have a small team with various specialisms, who have experience of working with a range of children and young people.

Celebrating volunteers at SOAR Community

Volunteering with SOAR is rewarding – both for the volunteers and for the wider community who benefit from your time and work. But sometimes, we like to say a big ‘thank you’ to our volunteers and let them know they’re appreciated!

We did just that recently, holding a volunteer celebration for the lovely people who give their time and energy to work with the Age Better project and Early Years project.

Fab 5 Courses help you to make a positive change!

DO you want to make a change in your life, but don’t know where to start? Then the Fab 5 course at SOAR could be just the thing for you!

The six-week course has one session each week, and has helped lots of local people make positive changes to their lives in all sorts of ways.

The course focuses on five ways to wellbeing – connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give – taking each one in turn and seeing how it can be applied to everyday lives.

SOAR are running lots of activities in the Chapelgreen area designed to help you keep healthy, with funding from the Chapelgreen People Keeping Well Community Partnership!

SOAR Tenant Profile: Aspire Community Enterprise

SOAR Works is home to some fabulous businesses, and this month we’re focusing on Aspire Community Enterprise.

The not-for-profit charity refurbish computers and laptops, selling the refreshed piece of kit. They offer free assessments, virus removals, upgrades, and a repair policy with a maximum £35 charge (excluding parts) as well as a no fix no fee guarantee!

Festival Fun in Parson Cross!

Sometimes the community just needs to get together, relax, and have fun. That’s exactly what happened at the Parson Cross Summer Festival!

The week-long festival was thrown in partnership with SOAR, Sheffield City Council, Chaucer School, Parson Cross Initiative, and White Rose YMCA.

The goal of the festival? Get people out, having fun, and mingling with their neighbours!

High Green residents celebrate Yorkshire Day

Every year, to celebrate Yorkshire Day on August 1, High Green local residents and groups hold a community celebration day at the Miners Welfare in High Green.

A selection of stalls – ranging from local history groups to Tai Chi and Sword Dancing groups – took part as well as representation from local pharmacies, PCSOs and the local Advice Centre.

Office Units and Artist Studios available at SOAR Works Enterprise Centre

If you are a small business or community enterprise we currently have several office units available ranging in size from 228 sq ft to 595 sq ft.

Our latest available space includes a wonderful artists studio which is 550 sq ft, while we also have two large offices available which are 466 sq ft and 593 sq ft respectively, as well as some smaller units.

Become one of our Very Valuable Volunteers!

Without our lovely band of volunteers SOAR wouldn’t be able to do the valuable work we carry out in the community every day, and we’re always on the lookout for new people who want to come and be a part of our team.

That’s why we have regular volunteer recruitment events, and August was no exception with an event outside the Learning Zone where we spoke with around 50 people who were interested in finding out more.
