McDonald’s Recruitment Day offers employment opportunities

The SOAR Employment team have arranged another recruitment open day to help people get into work, and the latest one is for McDonald’s at sites across Sheffield.

Come along and meet managers from McDonald’s on Tuesday, November 27 from 10am to 2pm at SOAR Community’s offices in Firth Park at 19 Bellhouse Road, S5 6HJ. 

They are looking for full and part time crew members, with flexible work, 16-20 or 35 hours a week.

Have a Christmas to Remember!

Would you like some company on Christmas Day? Age Better in Sheffield is looking for people both old and young to come along and give and receive help at two very special Christmas meals.

 

People aged over 50 are invited to come along to a FREE Christmas lunch at The Meadows in Shirecliffe and White Willows in Jordanthorpe. But places are limited to 40, so please book on soon!

Emergency First Aid course in Shiregreen

Countless lives have been saved by first aiders who can give people the treatment they need as soon as they need it – and you could learn the skills required to offer life-saving treatment.

Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre is hosting a one-day emergency first aid course on 30 November from 10am-4pm.

Priority is given to people living in Shiregreen, and the one-day course will cover essential techniques like CPR, bandaging, bleeding, burns, dressing wounds and helping people in shock.

Cooking for Health Classes

Do you want to learn to cook healthy, easy and cheap meals on a budget? Then out Cooking for Health classes could be just the thing for you!

Being held at Longley 4G, the six-week course starts on November 6 and runs from 10am-12noon. 

You will learn new cooking techniques, how to plan, budget and follow a recipe to make fresh easy meals. You’ll even get to take home what you cook!

Out now! The Living Well Guide

The latest issue of Living Well in North East Sheffield is available now, and it is packed full of great information and ideas!

The guides are published by Sheffield City Council and have been updated by local organisations in the four quarters of Sheffield, making the content come from the grassroots of the community.

The aim is to provide a one stop guide for services in the area, both for the public to refer to, but also for professional agencies such as GPs and social workers and other support agencies.

Successful Jobs and Careers Fair in Firth Park

The annual Sanctuary Housing Jobs and Careers Fair took place last month at Firth Park Library, and was a resounding success!

 

There were a variety of employers, trainers and volunteering companies in attendance including Tesco, Exemplar Healthcare, Princes Trust, BHF, Portland Training, the SOAR Volunteer Team and Opportunity Sheffield.

SOAR Works Tenant Profile – The William Merritt Centre

The William Merritt Centre, a long established charity and social enterprise based in Leeds for the last 30 years, opened an additional permanent office in Sheffield in April 2018.

 

SOAR have been incredibly welcoming and no request has been too much trouble. We are a small team and it has been great to have friendly faces from SOAR and the other tenants to say hello to each day.

SOAR organises weekly maths support groups at Sorby House, and best of all… it’s free!

Get up and running with our couch to 5K!

Could you run five kilometres? The answer is probably yes… if you join our Couch to 5K sessions!

 

Every Wednesday from 4.30-5.30pm at SOAR Works on Knutton Road we have a group of people who are working towards their personal goal of running 5K.

This is suitable for complete begins, and we will start off gently! Learn how to warm up and cool down, and start off with a walk, jog, then run.
