Let’s Cook Recipes

The Let’s Cook Project’s mission is to get the nation cooking from scratch!

Learning to cook is the gateway to eating well and enjoying good food but it also brings about a whole host of equally important benefits. Throughout summer 2020 Sheffield worked closely with the Let’s Cook Project to deliver an exciting & meaningful Health Hamper programme. Over 3,500 children in North East Sheffield received healthy hampers & we wanted to reshare the brilliant recipe cards & videos to alongside them.

Bags of Taste’s FREE mentored cooking courses

Bags of Taste’s FREE mentored cooking courses are back!

We currently have limited spaces left for September courses and lots of places available for October courses. The course is open to Sheffield residents – all you need to take part is a kitchen with basic equipment and a phone.

Our courses help people to gain the skills they need to cook healthy food on a small budget. Our funders are particularly keen to help people who are unemployed, on benefits or struggling with food costs.

SAVTE Is Recruiting New Trustees

Could you make a difference to communities facing deprivation in Sheffield?

SAVTE are looking for new trustees who want to be involved in the transformation of SAVTE to help secure sustainability so that they can continue to provide quality English language support in Sheffield communities.

SAVTE is a medium sized Sheffield based charity which has a long history of enabling volunteers to provide English language support to those people most excluded from mainstream provision. The vision is to make a positive impact on community development, by changing lives through connecting people with language learning. The mission is to help speakers of other languages develop the necessary skills and confidence to learn functional English which will enable them to become more active and empowered citizens in their communities. They particularly aim to recruit volunteers from within learners’ communities to help foster new relationships, neighbourhood resilience and community cohesion.

Meet Helen, SOAR Senior Development Worker

How have you been preparing for Healthy Holidays? I have been pulling activities together and organising who’s doing what and when. Sorting the timetable out whilst liaising with schools, volunteers, risk assessing, talking with other providers and participants. It’s been great working with a team where I can offer help and ideas.

Healthy Holidays 2020

Thanks to significant funding from the Department for Education, a Healthy Holiday programme is being delivered across Sheffield to support thousands of families during the summer holidays. In North East Sheffield alone, there are close to 20 organisations preparing healthy activities and meals in a COVID secure environment.

Organisations across North East Sheffield have been running holiday activities for a couple of years now. It’s an opportunity for young people and parents/carers to spend time with others in a safe and friendly space. Activities in the past have included sports, arts, drama, baking and much more. One Nana of 2 girls that attended last year’s activities said “The girls loved the Circus skills & have tried new activities they’ve never tried before. It was lovely to see them playing with other children from the area. It was also really nice to sit down with other families to have a community meal & it was appreciated when we could take food home afterwards.”
